How L-theanine reduces stress and anxiety

L-theanine ( L-theanine ) is a completely natural amino acid extracted from green tea.

L-theanine is very effective against restlessness and anxiety mainly because it is chemically similar to one of our brain’s excitatory neurotransmitters, glutamate.

Glutamate is the brain’s most important excitatory neurotransmitter and affects learning. L-theanine binds to the same receptors in the brain as glutamate and thus blocks the action of glutamate. Excessive brain activity is reduced, the body relaxes and calms down.

In addition, L-theanine promotes the production of GABA in the body. GABA is a calming neurotransmitter that supports a relaxed and calm state.

Most importantly, unlike drugs that attempt to mimic the effects of GABA and reduce stress, L-theanine is without side effects. It reduces anxiety but does not cause drowsiness or disturbances in the body’s motor functions.

In fact, studies have shown that L-theanine improves attention and alertness while reducing anxiety and stress.

L-theanine is mostly taken in the evening, but in cases of high stress it can also be used in the morning.

Ambrosia offers L-theanine from recognised quality raw materials. Suntheanine®, the raw material used by Pure Encapsulations, is the very raw material on which a number of the research studies mentioned above have been carried out. Suntheanine® contains theanine ONLY in the form of L-theanine. One research study found that cheap generic products contained D-theanine instead. However, the L-theanine form has been found to be significantly more bioavailable than D-theanine.
